The City of Oakland has agreed to remotely register individuals as encouraged by Gov. Gavin Newsom in Executive Order N-63-20 which was issued on May 8. Those seeking remote registration should call (510) 238-2189 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The City of Oakland is also willing to accommodate any individual who would prefer to register in person. In order to register in person, an individual must set up an appointment in advance by calling the sex offender registration unit at (510) 238-2189 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
For a period of 60 days, beginning May 8, registrants are not required to have their fingerprints or photographs taken. In addition, registrants are not required to sign registration forms.
This is great news. It sounded like complete bedlam over there a few days ago.
I saw an article on this yesterday. Boy oh boy did they include plenty of panic’d and “concerned” quotes about these people not needing to register for a period of time.
It’s like, look, if a person is going out of their way to try and register, they are trying to follow the all; all laws. But if the person is going to offend, them registering their address once a year (or even monthly) is not going to prevent that.
SR when I was looking at my paperwork and getting some things together I noticed my letter for this year thatr says every 9th I am suppose to register or contact them or home visits or whatever that one is suppose to ceck in. I’m just glad my PO called me and we talked.
He told me things are a bit crazy here in VA since this pandermic and I didn’t queston him on that. I did questioned him on how long he had been in Probation. Seems like many transfer from police forse to probation I didn’t even question about the lady that was suppose to be my PO. So are right it is crazy during this pandermic period. One can probably image what its like going on in bigger area’s. So why worry over spilt milk a lot are going thru if thats any consolation.

Janice et al, we just did our annual registration in Orange County via phone. She only asked for the name, DOB, address, phone number and vehicle information, and whether he is on probation or parole. BUT, at the end, she said we would get a call within 3-4 weeks to schedule the fingerprinting and picture. That is like registering TWICE in a year and was not the deal. It is ridiculous to register in person in the first place because everybody obviously now feels safe after this 2 minute phone call that gave all the necessary information. Is it really legal that they can ask us to come in and provide fingerprints at a later time, probably having to fill out all the paperwork again? Is there anything we can do? Also, how do we best ensure that this registration has been completed on time? Granted, I was with him on speaker, so I am a witness, but should we have asked for proof? It all just went by so fast.
Who the hell would prefer in-person registration?

they should follow the same. Fingerprint @later date&time or won’t prob be input into DOJ syst. since INCOMPLETE and reflects as ABSCONDER/IN VIOLATION.
